The only results of timing faults could be that an e-mail arrives before it was directed but in industries such as airline seat booking, the stock exchange or artificial satellite communication, divides of a 2nd can cause dangerous errors such as selling seats more than once, the loss of millions of dollars or even fraud.
Computers are logical simple machine and as time is running to a computer any event that bumps on one machine must happen before news of that event attain another. While meshes are not synchronized computers conflict to deal with cases that have apparently occurred (such as an e-mail being sent) but according to their clock and time stamp it has not yet, just remember to the millennium bug where it was feared clocks would jump back to 1900!
For this very reason NTP was built up. NTP applies an algorithmic program (Marzullo’s algorithm) to synchronize the time with the current version of NTP can maintain time over the public Internet to within 10 msecs and can execute even better over local area networks.
