Using Gmail as Sender Email on Joomla January 22, 2010
Posted by admin in : Website , trackbackMaybe you have a problem with the web hosting facility is not provided sendmail facility by default, “dead already”, what should you do? Send email using php is really very important, and to send email using sendmail php require facilities, what if your hosting does not provide these facilities? My solution is to use Gmail. We know that Gmail has a SMTP server that you can exploit its use as you want. This means you can use your gmail email to send email through your hosting.
PHPMailer allows you to use your gmail to send email through your web hosting. And so also with joomla also has facilities in the global configuration | system to be able to use gmail as joomla default email sender.
Here are the steps:
Sign in as an admin, then go to Global Configuration | Server
Your Mailer fill with SMTP Server
Mail From fill with email address you want, this email is displayed in part from an email client
From Name fill with Sender Name you want
then SMTP Authentication select yes
Your SMTP Security select yes
SMTP Port nya fill with 465 ->this is default port smtp server gmail service
SMTP Username fill with your gmail email address
SMTP Passwordnya fill with your gmail email password
the last SMTP Host fill with smtp.gmail.com

Save, and your gmail automatically will become the default joomla email. And you can see the facility “sent items” in your gmail to prove it.
