Alert, Windows security hole through the Shortcut Icon (link) August 6, 2010

Approximately 2 weeks ago began circulating virus/malware exploiting Windows vulnerabilities through the shortcut link. Only by opening the folder in which there are shortcuts (files with extension *.LNK) through Windows Explorer, can activate a virus/malware that can be harmful to your computer. After nearly 2 weeks of no updates, Microsoft has just released an update for users of Windows XP – Windows 7.
If the virus/malware can be automatically run (active) through the autorun on USB Flash drives, probably most of us already know. But this time the virus can be activated simply by opening the folder in it through the shortcut links (*.lnk).
Picture above is an example of an existing file on USB flash drive. Seem appears there are 4 shortcut files (.Lnk) and below it there are two files with extension tmp which is actually an executable file (this file is hidden, so users probably will not see it).
