VoIP implementations studied in the VoIP Forum, which is a consortium of international multimedia teleconference. Participants include Cisco Systems Inc., 3Com, Action Consulting, Creative Labs, Dialogic, MICOM Communications, Microsoft, NetSpeak, Nortel, Nuera Communications, Octel, U.S. Robotics, Vienna Systems, Vocaltec, and Voxware. VoIP forum guidelines served up raw, looking for opportunities to improve interoperability and quality, and develop numbering standardization. It is not easy in the world over IP.

VoIP Forum has developed the “Service Interoperability Implementation Agreement” (SIIA) as a reference design and the gateway client software that allows the formation of interoperability. However, this document is often modified.

Standardization of communication protocols in VoIP technologies such as H.323 enabled communications integrated with other communication networks such as PSTN. Basic VoIP presented in the diagram below. On the sender side, the voice signal is encoded into digital data, and then packaged. This data is channeled through the IP network. On the receiver side, data is translated and re-establish the voice signal.
